UNDP is on the ground in over 170 countries and territories, working with them on their own solutions to global, regional, and national development challenges.

The UNDP CO in New York, which leads UNDP’s work in Kuwait, is seeking a Private Sector Assistant with an interest in addressing priority global issues in the region such as climate change, biodiversity, water, poverty, and gender inequality in collaboration with various partners. Finding solutions to those issues together with partners is a vital element in attaining SDGs while preventing conflicts and pursing stabilities in the region. UNDP Kuwait has been engaging in the promotion of inclusive and sustainable growth and green financing with Kuwait private sector partners together with the UNDP Global Policy Network (GPN), which is in charge of UNDP’s corporate responsibility for developing all relevant policies and guidance to support our country programmes toward producing the results of UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2022-25.

To this end, the Private Sector Associate will work as part of UNDP Kuwait Sustainable Development Portfolio Team, in coordination with all relevant units in the CO, in analyzing and visualizing data with a focus on climate financing data. This exercise will help UNDP Kuwait strategize and plan development approaches in supporting and strengthening the pivotal role of the private sector partners in achieving the 2030 Agenda.

Context

The Private Sector Associate is intended to facilitate the following knowledge/learning:

UNDP’s policy and programme priorities in Kuwait and the Arab States region, especially in sustainable growth and green financing.
Climate-related financing data analysis
Development data visualization
Knowledge of climate financing to Kuwait and the Arab States region
Task description

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative and the direct supervision of the Programme Analyst for the Sustainable Development Portfolio, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Support the collection of data and its analysis and visualization.
Contribute to high-level presentations, infographics, and reports to strengthen UNDP’s position and engagement with partners.
Support in conducting analysis of key developments currently being discussed with partners.
Support in the monitoring and analysis of climate financing trends/streams of UNDP donors and partners in the region.
Support in identifying projects and programs that are being funded bilaterally and multilaterally by donors in the region.
Support in the development of donor intelligence (partners, needs and priorities).
Perform other related tasks/duties as required.

Eligibility criteria

– Candidates who have already served as UN Youth Volunteer funded by the Government of Korea are not eligible to apply (former UN University Volunteers are eligible).

– Serving UN Volunteers will not be considered for other UN Volunteer assignments until they reach three (3) months before the End of Contract date of their current UN Volunteer assignment. This provision applies equally to first and subsequent contracts.

– Candidates may apply to a maximum of three assignments and indicate the order of preference in the ‘Additional remarks’ field when filling in the application form.

– Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment.

Requirements

Required experience

1 years of experience in or demonstrated interest in progressively responsible administrative or programme experience on development issues preferably on issues related to sustainable development is required at the national or international level.

Excellent analytical skills and research capacity.
Excellent writing and editing skills.
An interest in addressing global challenges that the Arab Region is facing.
Creative, out-of-the-box thinking.
Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded.

Required education level
